DARK

1.
There's a slight dark tapping at the door.
There's a deep gray evening on the prowl.
There are whispers, there are sounds
that never let you down,
but you're always nervous in the dark.

2.
You can see through the window to the street below.
There's a hard-luck deal going down.
There are half-baked plans.
There's money changing hands.
They sure look nervous in the dark.

3.
Who's that figure on T.V.?
Guess you could be doing something else,
but you listen to his lies
as another evening dies,
as the light gets taken by the dark.

Chorus.
Once you were a dancer.
Wasn't long ago.
If you had the space
you'd show 'em everything you know.
Thing about these dancers,
they're not always in demand,
but no one in a place like this
could really give a damn.

4.
Your friend over there looks ill at ease tonight.
Guess she'd rather not be hanging 'round.
Still and all, she thinks
she'll have another drink
then leave to find some action in the dark.
